It is ironic that even though the Philippines is one of the freest places for journalists to practice their profession (they are free to oppose the government whenever they want to, unlike their Asian neighbors), it still remains as one of the most dangerous, especially the countryside.
Just recently, a journalist based in the province of Quezon was shot by assassins riding a motorcycle on July 30. Full details here in ABS CBN news.
