Grenade used in standoff was a dud

Police say that the grenades used in the 10 hour long child hostage drama in the Philippines, were duds and did not have detonators. They do say that the other weapons brandished by the perpetrators though, were real.

Hostage drama ends peacefully

A 10 hour hostage drama was finally brought to an end, after the owner of a children's day care centre, who had armed himself with grenades and a sub-machine gun, freed the children and surrendered to the police.

Ombudsman Maria Merce­ditas Navarro-Gutierrez praised the ruling handed down against a nunicipal judge who was convicted of accepting a bribe. She says it is clear evidence that the judiciary is cleaning up it's act.
