Longest barbecue set by Pangasinan town

By Website Introductions at 06/30/08 13:42

Another Philippine town does it again by making a Guiness world record of the longest barbecue ever,

The town of Sto. Tomas in Pangasinan barbecued more than 93000 pieces of glutinous corn on top of more than a thousand meters of grille. This record setting event was held last February as part of the town's local festival.

This kicks Uruguay out of first place as the Worlds Biggest BBQ record holder. Uruguay won the title just a few months ago in April, 2008.

Food or Education?

By Website Introductions at 06/29/08 12:31
If you are living in a family that worries about what your next meal will be, is there any room for you to think about your distant future and get education?

This is the sad truth that is manifested in mountainous rural Philippines. Students will have to cross mountains just to get to the school four kilometers away. This is not an assurance that they will finish the school year because they still have to worry about what are they going to eat.

Country faces food shortage, no thanks to Frank

By Website Introductions at 06/29/08 12:12
Before typhoon Frank, food shortage is already a problem in the country. What more now when Frank has already passed, destroying crops that would otherwise supply the country with the much-needed food?

This is one of the problems facing the country today. Food prices will certainly go up once the damage of Frank to the country's food supply is already felt.

Judges suspended and fined

By Website Introductions at 06/26/08 14:52
One of the problems of the Philippine justice system is its lack of judges who will hold the hearings. Empty court rooms are not unusual things to see here. What's more difficult to find are honest judges whose loyalty only lie on the law.

So after committing unethical and illegal actions, a number of judges were dismissed and fined by the Supreme Court. Full details here.

MV Princess of the Stars causes another problem

By Website Introductions at 06/26/08 14:42
The overturned MV Princess of the Stars, which killed dozens of people, causes another problem that may affect us for a long time.

Oil was seen spilling from the ship's tank, preventing the rescuers to investigate the ship further for fear of damaging the tank. If the oil isn't removed immediately, it may have adverse effects on our waters like what happened in Guimaras province years ago.

No Smoking Policy in LRT

By Website Introductions at 06/25/08 07:01
One of the country's major railways systems, the Light Railway Transit, has finally enforced a No Smoking policy in all of its offices and stations. That's long overdue!

In fact, there is a law called the Philippine Tobacco Regulations Act, that bans the use of tobacco in public areas, but it is hardly enforced as you can still a lot of people in the streets smoking.

Power still out in towns in Laguna

By Website Introductions at 06/24/08 09:31
Frank may have already left the country, but his traces are still here. Aside from lives lost due to flashfloods, cities are still stagnant because of the inability of the people to move around.

Furthermore, electricity still hasn't returned to some towns, like these 7 towns in the progressive province of Rizal. In San Pablo City, residents were not able to celebrate the feast of St. John because of the incident.
