Government growing pains

Many Asian countries are trying to grow into democracy. But growth all too often comes with growing pains. In the Philippines, election and overthrow seem to put leaders in office in similar numbers. It's no wonder President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo grew afraid of a coup attempt, called a state of emergency involving security raids on anti-government press offices, which led to the "unwarranted arrests of opposition officials and the brutal suppression of public protests."

World Premier Boxing Convention in Philippines in 2007

Boxing is very established and respected in the Philippines. The next three years' conventions will be in Asia starting with this year's in Manila, Philippines. The roster of participants is quite impressive too.

Abaca use ideal in cars

Abaca is locally grown and a good alternative to fiberglass. Global demand has increased the local buying price. The use of abaca is good for the cars and good for the local Philippine economy where the car accessories are manufactured.

Women's volleyball competitions in February

The Governor's Cup was such a successful event that the M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation is already planning another women's volleyball competition. There will be both indoor and beach games. Planners are trying to get 2003 national champion of the Nestea Beach Volleyball competitions, Janeth Ponte, interested in competing.

Fever of unknown origin differs by country

Fever of unknown origin in children is usually caused by infection. In adults the cause seems to have changed from infection to cancer. In children the common infections causing FUO are typhoid fever and tuberculosis.
