Citigroup will acquire Egg Banking from Prudential

Citigroup Inc has entered into a binding agreement to acquire Egg Banking Plc, which is a subsidiary of Egg Plc and Prudential Plc, for US$1.1 billion. In addition, Prudential Plc will become the provider to Citigroup to distribute life insurance products to customers in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Natural disasters takes 2,511 Filipinos in 2006

2006 saw its share of natural disasters with floods and storms being the most frequent. The U.N. International Strategy for Disaster Reduction reported that there were 21,796 disaster–related deaths worldwide in 2006, which was down from the 92,000 who died in 2005 because of the Asian tsunami. In the Philippines 1,399 people died in December due to Typhoon Durian, another 1,112 people were killed earlier in the year because of a landslide on the archipelago.

Mobile phones used for more than communicating

Cells phones are the primary phones for most emerging economies. It's no longer seen as a luxury item and instead as a basic means of communication. In the Philippines more than 4 million people are using their cell phones as even more than communication devices. They're using them as "virtual wallets" something that's a rarity in many wealthy nations.

Children's choir touring US

Children of the World international children’s choir, is made up of disadvantaged and orphaned children from India, Uganda, Brazil and the Philippines. The choir is on a ten month tour of the United states singing songs in English and native dialects as well as giving testimonies.
