Romance is definitely in the air this Valentine's Day. In the Philippines organizers of a mass wedding were overwhelmed by the response. Over 100 couples turned out to tie the knot on this special day.

But the days before and after Valentine's Day are the days spent with lovers. Divorce is illegal in the Philippines and extramarital affairs are often accepted.

Property prices jump in election period

Election-related spending is driving property prices. The area most affected is retail rentals. Retail rental rates were projected to to rise 7-percent. Retail sales for the same period looked to be unchanged.

Teachers can be pre-screened but not hired

There has been an election related hiring ban. But an exemption for police and educators should allow the hiring of 13,000. But all they can do is pre-screen. They can't actually hire anyone yet.

Two policement murdered

Two policemen were ambushed and murdered just outside of Manila in the small town of Taytay on Sunday. The murder is presumed to be in retaliation by militants sympathetic towards the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Police raided raided an area where MILF members were suspected to be hiding in the predawn hours of February 1. Two suspected MILFs were captued and one killed in the raid.
