The United States gets a lot of its nurses from the Philippines. Filipino nurses must go through a lot of training and it's their bend toward hard work and caring that give them an edge. It was a hard-won battle, but the next testing site for the National Council on Licensure Examinations (NCLEX) will be the Philippines.

President Arroyo has a new jobs plan to benefit all of the Philippines. She is going create the jobs that the Philippines needs and wants so they won't look abroad instead. She will do this until her term ends in 2010.

Philippine hotel readying for tourists

The tourism trade from India to the Philippines is large and a Filipino hotel chain operator is going to use those tourists to its advantage. The large influx of Indian tourists can boost revenues and room occupancy rates. Last December many of the rooms went through a remodel and more of the rooms and villas will be remodeled this month with completion in March.

How sweet! On Saturday night, 6,124 Filipinos kissed in a parking lot and broke the world record for simultaneous kissing. The event was called the Lovapalooza. The previous record was set on June 25, 2005 in Budapest, Hungary, when 5,875 couples kissed.

No more aerial spraying for bananas

Davao City has banned aerial spraying of banana plantations and the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association (PBGEA) must respect the decision. The banana growers are less than thrilled. They will have to downsize to make room for roads to spray pesticides through other means. Aerial spraying is the best way since the public wants bananas with a certain appearance and size. Some growers may move their farms altogether.
