President Arroyo is trying to change the perception of the Philippines of economically problematic. The President is trying to create more jobs and improve basic services such as utilities, water, and shelter. Poverty has always been an issue in the Philippines. As the gap between the rich and poor grows larger, President Arroyo is working to end poverty.

Carrot importation will have to wait

An administrative order that would allow the importation of carrots from China will not be signed by Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap yet. There's a process that the order has to go through still. The importation can't be prohibited since they were deregulated with the Philippines joined the WTO.

President Arroyo was worked hard at and is proud of democracy in the Philippines. She's saddened by the misconception that more journalists have died during her time than others. Journalists are also upholding democracy. President Arroyo can now work on public perception too.

More and more women are no longer relegated to the shadows. They aren't just on the arm. More women are defense ministers in Latin American countries than ever. A former United States First Lady is running for President. Margaret Thatcher was England's Prime Minister. So then you might want to look to the Philippines and Corazon Aquino. But she rose to power when her husband died.
