Food or Education?

If you are living in a family that worries about what your next meal will be, is there any room for you to think about your distant future and get education?

This is the sad truth that is manifested in mountainous rural Philippines. Students will have to cross mountains just to get to the school four kilometers away. This is not an assurance that they will finish the school year because they still have to worry about what are they going to eat.

Another Food and Energy Council

And the bureaucracy just got larger.

President Arroyo has just created a top-level agency that will assess the current energy and food situation in the country for the next five years.

The agency, called the National Food and Energy Council, was created to ensure an adequate supply of food and energy in the coming five years. Among its task is to advise the President when to apply certain measures at a certain time.
