Grenade used in standoff was a dud

Police say that the grenades used in the 10 hour long child hostage drama in the Philippines, were duds and did not have detonators. They do say that the other weapons brandished by the perpetrators though, were real.

Ombudsman Maria Merce­ditas Navarro-Gutierrez praised the ruling handed down against a nunicipal judge who was convicted of accepting a bribe. She says it is clear evidence that the judiciary is cleaning up it's act.

A 24-hour hostage standoff ended when Philippine police successfully stormed a courtroom, freeing all four hostages. The gunman was killed when he dropped a grenade during the confrontation.
